There seems to be a bit of confusion about what will be involved at the upcoming "one day" at the end of August. I am putting up this post to clarify a few things.
As a chapter, we are endorsing this event as a one-day because we are really impressed with the desire of our PC's to spend some time together hashing out the details of a lot of plots that we have going.
What can you expect if you come to the meeting?
1. In-game discussion amongst the PC's who organized it about the possible directions that they could choose to go as the campaign moves forward. We are a very reactive chapter. We supply a storyline and then watch (eagerly and often drooling) as our players decide what they want to do with the pieces that we have put in place.
2. Possible discussion with NPC's who represent some of the factions who might be affected by whatever decisions the players make. These NPC's will only show up if they are specifically invited by the players (and if they would show up after receiving the invitation).
What should you NOT expect if you come out to this discussion?
1. Plot entertainment. We will not be showing up as random NPC's to add flavor to the event. No goblins showing up with cupcakes that have sardines baked inside them. No ghouls that have funny accents. No lisping goblins. (unless they were invited, of course).
2. Fighting. We won't be attacking you while you have your discussion. The in-game location that is being proposed wouldn't really make fighting possible, even if there were those PC elements who decided to try and sabotage it. We will be marshaling the event only because of the possibility of discussions becoming extra-heated.
3. Treasure. Unless you get it from another player, you will not be leaving this event with any more loot than you came in with.
4. Production. We will not be allowing for production at this "event" in the form of production skills or in the form of turning in goblin stamps for production items.
Okay, so I think that covers about everything except the main question. Should you, newbies or your loved ones come?
The answer to that question rests with one question.
"Do you enjoy discussing political-type issues in a fantasy world?"
If you answer yes to that, it should be a heck of a lot of fun. There's a lot of information out there and some key decisions to be made, but not so much information that someone new couldn't get up to speed on the issues pretty quickly.
And, of course, if you just want to meet some really cool people and hang around after the heavy in-game discussions, that's a perfectly good reason to come, too.
My personal hope? That I'm not invited to attend as an NPC and that I get to hang around the fire after the heavy lifting is done and enjoy some mead and good beer.
