Ok...I have been looking over the 9th ed rules and am left with multiple questions that I need clarification on.
1. Nowhere (that I can find) in the 9th ed rulebook does it talk at all about spell books. It simply mentions that casters can memorize/prepare spells or use cast on the fly. Are spell books still needed in 9th edition? If so...where do they come from? Everything in nero has a 2 year life span...and I cant find any rules for crafting new spell books (which sort of makes me think they just did away with them as silly as that sounds).
2. Cantrip pages (not Tomes) are mentioned in the rulebook, but very little detail is provided about them. Where do they come from? Can they be crafted by a scroll maker? Do they still require the use of components? (I am guessing they do, but again...its not very clear).
Here is the small paragraph I am referring to for reference from page 59 of the rulebook:
Cantrip Pages In addition to Cantrip tomes, there are also Cantrip pages. Cantrip pages function like Cantrip tomes but are of one use only and will only contain a single Cantrip. A Cantrip page must follow the rules for size as if it were a scroll and must be read and a packet touched to it in order to cast from it.
Thanks, Evan

And are you switching to 9th for september, as in no more spellbooks? Just curious. -Joshua Freshwater it would seem that tomes are now the only magic books.

1. By all of my own reading, spell books appear to no longer exist in ninth edition. There were some ongoing clarifications for various issues posted on the national forum. HowEver, they just switched to a new website and all that info is lost. Therefore, playing by the rules, spell books will no longer serve any function in the game and will now not be necessary to cast or memorize.
2. There is no mechanism for a PC to create a cantrip page. As with all things that exist but cannot be created by a PC, I personally hate this. Cantrip pages are simply found as treasure, and provide plot teams with a lame (in my opinion) way to put out a cantrip that can only be used once. My opinion would change on this if there were simply a cantrip called "create cantrip page"

Thanks Bill...your answers are what I thought as well but I figure its best to clarify and hope that maybe something cool would come from it. Like maybe something for master scroll makers to create cantrip pages as 10th level scrolls. Then again that just makes sense to me...

In theory (which is not my strong suit) if one could find paper that could be enchanted they should be able to use the copy cantrip to copy one from a tome onto a single page. I am probably very very wrong but I was trying to think it out.

Formal 9th edition,
In the 9th ed formal magic it states in the 3rd bullet point under casting rules:
"...within a specially scribed representation on the ground. This representation must be drawn in the shape of a circle with a V. see Figure 1-1. This is known as a “fishtail,” and is not protective in any way. The representation must also contain sigils, runes, or other symbols, fetishes, implements or props to indicate that a powerful magic is going to be cast. This representation is often also termed “Circle.” "
Does this mean that it no longer requires a 9th level spell to cast? and is only the physical representation to be provided by the player?
If the answers to the above questions are yes, can the fishtail circle that is properly phys repped be left inside the circle of power during game play to be used at anytime? or does each caster have to have thier own unique phys rep?

The casting of formal magics no longer requires a circle of power spell.
Casters can create a fish tail and use it over and over for rituals. I hope to see some nice ones that become "permanent" in their own way without magic!

Okay, this is absolutely awesome. By far my favorite change of 9th edition thus far, and I'm not even a caster. And not mechanically, but what it will do for the atmosphere of the game. It will be much easier to have a well phys repped ritual circle now a days, which could look really awesome.

This makes the idea much better than originally thought. I think Neville will have a new sash,... and when I find the components and scrolls, it will become an even better rendered sash.

So I reeread the rules it states the fishtail needs to be scribed. Does this mean that we cannot use a phys rep like a rope or the such? Or do we need to manually create the fishtail in the dirt or what ever surface we want to perform the rituals?

The requirement is that the fishtail must be a "scribed representation on the ground" that "must contain sigils, runes, or other symbols, fetishes, impliments or props to indicate that a powerful magic is going to be cast."
While this would seem to indicate drawing, actual drawing of the symbol is not required for logistical reasons alone. A requirement like that would only add to the cleanup indoors, and we are not going to interpret a rule to create more of our least favorite work.
Therefore, rope and cloth will make for acceptible methods of creating a fishtail rep. However, as indicated by the rule, a simple rope is not enough by itself to make the fishtail usable for rituals because it would lack the other runes, etc... So, if you use a rope as a base, you will need to add more.
Something like a scarf or a long sash that had sigils and runes on it that could be placed on the ground in the fishtail formation would be perfectly acceptable.
