Jordan acts as plot support to the divergent and deeply rooted world of NERO Detroit and acts as the self-styled "prop master". Coming relatively late to the game compared to Bill and Jay, Jordan began playing LARps on a whim, as he was introduced to the (then) NERO Great Lakes at a comics and gaming convention in 1996. He quickly joined as a variety of characters, switching every so often to a new one when the previous became too dull or the current plotline didn't match their goals/personality. When NERO Great Lakes went away, Jordan continued to travel in various western NERO chapters throughout Michigan and the Midwest, travelling as far west as Chicago and east as New Brunswick, Canada.
Soon after NERO Great Lakes folded and became NERO Kalamazoo, Jordan spent a brief stint on the plot team for that incarnation before journeying with his fellow NERO Detroit Plot members to play “Jhakarovah”. When Jhak became large enough to split into another campaign, he was selected to take over as plot head, remixing the history and writing the plotlines for Jhakarovah: Race Wars – an ambitious project which centered on creating conflict within the PC charter. After years of an on again, off again dedication to LARping, Jordan was convinced to return to NERO and play again. After a few events, the itch to run a game returned, and with the promises of running in the campaign which he held in such regard, he jumped at the chance to join the plot team for NERO Detroit.
As far as playing NERO, Jordan prefers to avoid the hack and slash genre and incorporate more role-play into his characters - his background in improvisation has encouraged him to see the relationships in each of the nearly 10 characters he plays/played - from a laconic orcish scout to his pacifistic elven healer to his boisterous, conniving "Skilled Tradesman". His favorite aspects of the game include spellcasting – particularly the utilitarian spells and binding magics; along with “alternate route” thinking – using roleplay or duplicity to achieve goals (usually going against plot’s machinations) – but he is most called upon during some plots to create complex trap modules and has an extensive collection of complex triggers and reps.
In his non-LARping life, Jordan is an Artist, Teacher, Actor and family man. His wife, Kim, is incredibly understanding of his weekends out dressing as goblins and such - she has even been convinced to come to a few events, as a PC and cook. He has two children, Ian (6) and Kendall (3), who have taken up beating the crap out of each other with their boffer daggers (Kendall’s is pink) – but only Ian gets the concept of incants currently.
As a day job, Jordan is a Visual Arts educator at the Plymouth Canton Educational Park, working with students aged 14-18 teaching Drawing, Painting, Photography, Graphic Design, Ceramics, and Foundations. He has a MAE from Eastern Michigan University in Art Education and a BFA from Michigan State University. He has exhibited artwork throughout Michigan, his work has appeared in numerous publications – from poetry collections to children’s books, as well as raising thousands for benefits and charities throughout the midwest. His work is varied and shifts focus from high contrast flat work to high-concept multi-media abstractions. His next major project is creating a multi-dimensional Aesthetic website showcasing his work - OuroborosRebirth.com
Jordan has performed in and around Middle and Southeast Michigan since 1996 with a variety of Acting Improvisational troupes, including “94 East”, “Holden Caulfield’s Cigarettes”, and “Tilt!” Formally trained at The Second City in Detroit, the Purple Rose Company, The Motion Picture Institute of Michigan, the Detroit Repertory Theater, and Michigan State and Eastern Michigan Universities. Jordan shared his knowledge of improvisation and acting techniques with the students of PCEP, acting as director for the “Sketchy@Best” Improv and “Fancy Schmancy” Sketch Comedy Troupes for nearly a decade. He has played numerous roles on stage and screen, diversifying his work with stunt and motion capture work – his most high-profile acting jobs include working opposite Tom Berringer on the Civil War-set feature “War Flowers” and motion capture facial and body work for SEGA’s “Iron Man” and Midway’s “Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe” Video Games.
