I think that a few mods geared toward the less seasoned players will allow them to cut their teeth while still presenting an unscaled world. You're right, there's nothing wrong with an unscaled world. I just don't think it's fun to feel completely powerless for a weekend of gaming.

On the subject of being Powerless. I happen to have started Tempest with that in his name and still is. My character who calls himself Tempest once started out as Pentex the Powerless. When I came into game I started with 15 Build. That is Read and Write, Healing arts, First Aid and a 4 2 1 earth spells. Oh and did I mention 3 body and no phys rep for armor? Less than what any players starts with today. Totally Worthless right? Cant even swing a weapon. Well the first event I played this character was at one of Bills game. A one day where I meet some awesome people from Pro. Well in that event I was scared out of my mind. Everything could down me with one blow. We came upon a forge and released a Werewolf. People panicked and the front line broke. I ran away from the were wolf encounter knowing that I could not beat him (no weapon and no spells that could stop him) but circled back after he was chasing some other people and got 3 people up with my spells. As they ran to regroup I found a caster who I was talking to earlier. I saw he was down and I had no healing spells left. I then drug him to safety by hiding us under a tree and and first aided him and waited 10 minutes for him to get up hoping like crazy the branches I put over us would hide us from the werewolf. Well in ten minutes he got up and with his help we rounded up some people and where able to defeat the werewolf. He was able to help rally them so we would all stick together. That lead up to my second event. I went to Atlanta and some friends of Joesph invested me in the tyrangel healers circle. And I was asked to go kill a greater vampire that event. With my 4321 pyramid with 1 level of potion making (fear those skills). I guess what I am getting at is the stat card is just the stat card. It is the player that makes all the difference. Find friends because it doesnt matter if you are 1st level or 60th level most of the time you are two shot able. And RUN if it is too tough for your. The best armor you have is your legs and after many years of nero that just has not changed:) I look forward to gaming with as many of you as I can I will say this. I have been to LOTS of nero chapters and lots of different larps. And Bill runs a great game it is hard so do not get caught alone. And you wont win every fight. But when you do take down the big bad guy it is an accomplishment!

Flinglecask -
I wasn't an elf, but I was dressed in a tan shirt and pants, with a brown-trimmed multicolored doublet the entire weekend. I was also the one with the bad faux-English affectation in his voice, lol. Why do you ask?

Eric -
I thought that was you. The reason I asked is because I wanted to give you kudos for how you played your event. The moment you met my team, your nose was in a book, but you looked up and roleplayed your love of knowledge very well. No one else was in there reading, but you took the initiative to do it. Although I didn't have more opportunities to interact with you, you were out and about talking to people and whatnot. That shows me that you have exactly what it takes to succeed in, and have a blast playing, this game.
Talking to people--PC and NPC alike--and trying to figure out what is going on will thrust you into the story. Where you go from there is up to you, but if you choose to get involved, it will be a fun ride.
Hope to see you at the next event,
Joe / Flinglecask

If you ever feel at a loss for what's going on, Eileen and Armand are usually those 'in the know' with everything at our chapter. Feel free to ask any member of House Risen, we're a friendly bunch.

Thank you to all of the PC's and to all of my fellow NPC's for what I felt was an awesome event. A hearty welcome to all who have expressed thanks, I can tell you that I am pleased that you enjoyed this event and that I did as well even if it was by far the most excruciatingly painful of events. I was extremely excited when I was able to interact with people while speaking exclusively German. You have no idea how elated I was inside to have those conversations in the tavern. Thank you all again and I look forward to next time.

To the low level players,
Trust me much. I know that feeling of uselessness. For a VERY long time I played a character who never really saw the limelight, never felt like the hero and generally didn't enjoy NERO as much as everyone else. But I did put myself in that position, and while I'm not claiming that any low levels are putting themselves there, the best way to make yourself feel useful is to make everyone else look to you.
Less then a year ago, I was Marcus' brother Armand. That was about it. I wasn't good at fighting, I very rarely got into deep roleplay, I tended to keep to the side and stay out of "The High Level Players" way. But I just started talking to anyone and everyone about anything and everything. And very quickly I became an integral part of the Cast of Sanctuary. My best advice is, take the bull by the horns and let your character stand up for what he believes in.
When the ravager came, Armand saw it as a time of glory for the Fo'Karn and as many who fought alongside me know, I bit the bullet and didn't give up. I actually ressurected twice midfight. But when it fell, I have never felt more victorious in my entire NERO career. Stick to your character, and don't back down and you'll find where you want to be.

Sup yall,
I remember my first nero event it was at Camp Talahie (sp) and had no idea what I was doing. Game was called at 11 pm and I had forgot my allergy medicine so I ran up the hill of death and got my medicine. I walked out the door and got waylayed by some kobalds...they stole all of my stuff and I really couldn't do very much after that. Personally, I could have said f this game and never come back, but I didnt and have been playing for 11 years and for about 4 of those years, I sucked ass at nero, I mean I couldnt fight or roleplay. I learned how to fight and roleplay from one my best friends Eric Tyrell, by NPCing, and watching the experience players fight and roleplay.
I guess what I mean by this that it takes some time to really learn and understand the game of nero, whether it is detroits or someone elses...each game is different and you got to find the one that fits you as a person. Personally I love the Nero Detroit game, mainly because I started there.
I also wanted to say thank you to all the part time NPCs this weekend and to Joe for all his hard work this past event. Bravo man bravo!
Thank you to all the PCs who came out this past event. We couldnt do it without you.
