I have just looked up the rules and it appears that at the Fort Custer site we would require written authorization from the park manager in order to possess alcohol. As it is far too late to call right now I can not find out at the moment if this is possible for us to do.

Are we okay with booze at this as long as there's no combat? I mean if it's officially sanctioned as a one-day event then technically we can't drink until we call game. you can have an event with alcohol as long as there is ZERO Combat. This is like having a feast day or a rp gathering. just thought you might like to know.

From talking to a couple people, the question of NPC (plot) involvement is up in the air. In any case, though, that NPC involvement is going to be only talking and not fighting. With the in-game location being talked about and the ease of putting up a ward, there would and will be no NPC attacks. And that's good, because we're not going to do that anyways. I also don't believe it's likely that PC's will be fighting. If it's going to be a sanctioned event, though, I would say that there should be a clear line when the sanctioned portion ends and then drinking is allowed.

Oh, and if there's going to be home-brewed mead present, I bet Jordan will be present for the after-party.

This sure is shaping up nicely!! Evan, do you want to make the call to Fort Custer today? If not, I can do it, just let me know one way or another. I think we should go for the most remote cabin they have, so as not to have annoying neighbors, and also request leave to consume alcohol in moderation.
In response to Bill's point, there may not be any PC v. PC fighting, per se, there may be a raucus game of tip the tankard, or even some trum no trum, if the stars align...
CAN'T WAIT.

If you want to go ahead and make the call by all means go for it. Looking at the map it appears that both cabins are essentially next to each other, but you can always ask them about distance.
I would also recommend you inquire about the following things:
1. Fire pit/ring 2. Grill 3. Bathrooms
I assume 1 is a yes, 2 is a no, and 3 is vault toilets with no running water or electricity but its best to make sure.
-Evan
P.S. I dont know what the policy is regarding any sort of deposit, arrival time/check out time, if we need to fill out paperwork or how far in advance the cabin needs to be paid for.

Reservation is made. Fort Custer Recreation Area, Lakeview Cabin. We had to get it for two nights, since it is a weekend. The total reservation cost was $168 ($80/night + $8 reservation fee). I assume that given the number of people that look like they'll be coming, it's going to run about $20 a head. Bring that much and if more show, I'll give change back to even it out. The cabin sleeps 12 for those that plan to stay overnight.
Michiganders will need a MI Passport on their car to get into the park. If you haven't gotten one with your plate reservation, it's $10 a car per year. Out of staters can pay $8 per night per car, or pay $26 per year.
The cabin is rustic. No electricity. Hand pump water. Vault outhouse toilet. Picnic table. Fire ring. We'll need to bring linens, water containers, insect repellant, flashlights, etc. I'll bring a propane lantern, and anyone else that has those can bring them as well.
The other cabin is apparently around a bend in the road, but relatively close. You can't see the other cabin from this one, and vice versa. We'll have to drive by the other cabin at a fork in the road to get to this one.
The reservations place told me there was currently an alcohol ban in place for this park (through labor day), and I confirmed this with the site directly. (Bummer)
It's officially a go!!

If you all are interested, Garrett and I could show up as our goblins. We could Cater the gathering (cupcakes anyone?) and provide entertainment as strippers. You haven't really partied until you've drank mead from a goblins belly button! Just throwing that out there.

Well..On the plus side that means if people want they can show up Friday night and spend the evening since the cabin is reserved for the weekend.
Maybe we can get a group together and hit Kzoo for an OOG late dinner or something then crash at the cabin...
Just a thought, Evan

Not to sound ungrateful but I thought we were waiting till monday to see how many people were interested? I know we were talking about renting one cabin for 60 bucks for one night but we have almost tripled that and now it's two days instead of one, oh ya and parking costs. I am just wanting to make sure that as many people come out as we were hoping since the price is currently much higher then we anticipated along, though it does go down the more that show up.

Evan, I do think a Friday show up is a possibility, but I likely won't be showing up until Saturday early afternoon. If people go on Friday, please save the in-game discussion for Saturday!!
And Jay, one word. Pass. PASS.

Evan just so you know, we can't show up Friday night either. I am taking Anya to a concert downtown that night. We figured we would be driving up Saturday anyway.

Ok, well the reservation is made, and that's a done deal. If people decide to bail, I'll cancel it and eat the cancellation fee. But I think the answer to the cash problem is inspiring more people to come to defray the costs.
There are still free options, including my back yard in Ann Arbor, but they have longer drives for the Illinois people. If there is critical mass to do that instead, then so be it.
For now, I'll hold onto the reservation so we can get an anticipated list of people and a better sense of the cash per person.
Also, on the positive side, if it is a sanctioned event, we'll be getting build for it. Hopefully that eases the pain of the real cash outlay.
Best,
Joe

Joe I laughed my but off at your last line. Dave pointed out build too! lol. I am game for whatever more people want. I agree that hopefully more people will come out for it which reduces the cost just wasn't sure how much people had wanted to drink. Not being a huge drinker it's not a big deal to me (though I was looking forward to tasting Mike's mead, lol). I guess we will just have to dig out our lanterns. lol.
